MUMBAI: The Dahisar police on Monday arrested a man for burning alive his 24-year-old wife and seriously injuring their two daughters, one six months old and the other two years old. Both are now battling for life with about 55% burns. Accused Pramod Jore's brother has also been arrested.
Police officials said Pramod poured kerosene over his wife, Poonam, and set her ablaze before locking her and their two daughters inside their home early on Monday.

He took the extreme step after an altercation with his wife, they added.
Jore works with a printing press. The couple was married four years ago. Six months after the marriage, Jore and his family members began suspecting Poonam's character and harassing her. "They suspected her of having an affair and would reprimand her and beat her up for the most trivial issues,'' said inspector Shankar Khatke. He added that her in-laws also demanded money and would beat her up.
"A fight broke out between the couple on Sunday afternoon and Pramod allegedly beat her up. The fight continued all evening and night,'' Khatke said. Early on Monday, around 4 am, the husband poured kerosene over Poonam and set her ablaze. He then went out, locking in his wife and daughters.
Poonam succumbed to her injuries and her body was taken to Bhagwati Hospital for post-mortem. The couple's two daughters are in a critical condition and have been admitted to the same hospital.
